Need a Fresh Start?

Life hasn’t gone the way you’ve planned… things aren’t going well… and you know something’s missing.  There’s something out there… you can feel it.  You were made for something more than this, you know… but you can’t seem to grasp hold of what it is.  No matter where you are in life, no matter what has happened in your life… God has a purpose for your life – and that, ultimately, is to have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus.  That’s really good news!

But before we go too far with the good stuff, there is some bad news.  You see, all of us are messed up, in one way or another.  In fact, the Bible says it this way:  “Everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious [read that, “perfect or righteous”] standard” (Romans 3:23).  The Bible also says, “No one is righteous – not even one” (Romans 3:10).  That goes for you, your neighbor, your co-worker… no one is exempt from God’s righteous judgment.  Sin means “to miss the mark”, and everyone… everywhere… has missed God’s mark of total righteousness – whether in word, actions, thoughts… we’ve all blown it; we’re all broken.

But God doesn’t want us to stay that way.  You see, sin separates us from God and condemns us to eternal judgment.  But, the Bible tells us that God sent His only Son, Jesus, to take the punishment for our sins.  Jesus died on a cross for us, and took upon Himself the punishment that we deserved from God.  Not only that, but He rose from the dead and now lives forevermore – and because of all that He’s done, He has obtained eternal salvation (safety from certain doom) for us.  And this free gift of salvation is available simply by asking for it.  We don’t deserve it, and could never earn it… it is absolutely and totally FREE!  However, it is only freely ours when we ask for it – we must accept it.  A gift unaccepted cannot be claimed as ours.

No matter who you are or where you are, God loves you and He wants you to know that you can have a fresh start today… simply by accepting His free gift of salvation.  How does one receive this gift?  It’s as simple as praying and asking God for it… here’s how:

  1. Admit that you’re a sinner, and that you need God’s forgiveness.  Remember, all have sinned… there is no one that upholds His righteous standard.
  2. Acknowledge that you’re abandoning your life of independence from God.  This is what the Bible calls “repentance.”  To repent simply means “to do an about face… to turn around.”  This involves turning from a life of independence to a life of submission to God.
  3. Ask Jesus to come into your life, and make you a new person.  The Bible says, “Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person.  The old life is gone; a new life has begun” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

God promises that He will live in you forever, and enable you to live a new life of following His Son.  Jesus is now your Forgiver and your Leader!
